Surkhan - legendary land

Description: A fascinating historical tour from  Samarkand to the legendary Surkhan 
Region ancient Bactria. Getting to the southern gate of Uzbekistan - Termez. Visiting ancient forts, archaeological excavations, historical sites and masterpieces of medieval architecture. Tour is designed for visitors to our country, have free time, such as this weekend, for a better acquaintance with the country.

Route: Samarkand – Shakhrisabz - Termez - Samarkand

Day 1: Samarkand – Shakhrisabz – Termez (435 km, car/van/coach)

Meeting early in the morning at advance agreed place (hotel, airport, train station or other).

Start a journey to Termez. On the way we'll drop to homeland of Amir Temur (Tamerlane) - Shakhrisabz.

Arriving in Shakhrisabz, you will start sightseeing the historical monuments - Ak-Saray (XIV-XV c.) - the ruins of a grandiose palace of Tamerlane; Complex Dor-us Saodat (The Place of power, XIV-XVI c.) – the tomb of Tamerlane sons - Jahangir and Umar; Complex Dor-ut Tilovat (The Place of reflections, XIV c.) - mausoleum of Timur’s spiritual mentor - Sheikh Shamseddin Kulol, where also was buried Tamerlane father - Amir Taragai; Gumbazi Sayidon (XV c.) - mausoleum of Ulugbek descendants; cathedral Mosque Kuk Gumbaz (XV c.).

Then we continue the trip to Termez, which will pass through the Kashka Darya valleyhot steppe and picturesque passes of Hissar Mountains.

Lunch - on the way, to a national restaurant.

On arrival at the Termez - accommodation at hotel. Rest.

After a rest - start the sightseeing of ancient Termez. First of all, we will visit the Archaeological Museum, where you can become better acquainted with the ancient history of this region. Then we drive to the ruins of Old Termez (IX-XII c.); visit the Mausoleum of Al-Hakim Termezi (XII-XV c.); Sultan Saodat Mausoleum (XIII-XIV c.) and Kirk-Kiz Nunnery (VI-XI c.).

After the sightseeing for you will be provided dinner at a restaurant in Termez with colorful folklore program.

Overnight.


Day 2: Termez – Jarkurgan – Termez – Samarkand (515 km, car/van/coach)

After breakfast we will continue the sightseeing of Termez.

Drive to Jarkurgan (40 km) and visit the Jarkurgan minaret (XII c.). 

Return to Termez and visit the Buddhist monuments of Termez: Fayaztepa Monastery (I-III c.); Stupa Zurmala (III c.).

After the sightseeing - lunch at one of the cozy restaurants of Termez, after which we go way back to Samarkand.

Arrival to Samarkand. End of the tour.
