Minaret and Mosque of Khoja Islam

In the south-east of Ichan-Kala is a unique architectural ensemble of Khodja Islam, consisting of the smallest madrassah and the highest minaret in Khiva, rising in shape to the ancient minarets XI-XII centuries.

Islam Khodja - Chief Vizier during the reign Muhammad Rahim Khan II and his son Isfandiyar Khan, unlike most of Khan's officials, was an excellent educated man and visionary, held progressive views. However, the fate of the creator of madrassa and minaret was tragic. The clergy and the conservative-minded notables hostile to the policy of Islam Khoja and his innovations. It is believed that they were able to win over Isfandiyar Khan, convincing him that Islam Khodja (which it still accounted for and test) is a threat to Khan's power. The fate of the vizier was sealed. One night, when Islam Hodja returned to his country residence, unknowns inflicted deaths stab wounds and fled.

Islam Khoja Minaret

Islam Khodja Madrasah
